Activated carbon water filters come in either a granular form (i.e., powdered, called GAC - granular activated carbon) or compressed (carbon block). Microns measure how "tight" the holes of the filters are, so the fewer microns a filters has, the more "narrow" filtering it does. For standard water quality, you should use filters with 5 microns.
